Our Story
I’m Tristan Folinsbee. I grew up wandering the woods and learning to hunt from my father, a wildlife biologist in Edmonton Alberta. I’ve worked as a fry cook, a golf course attendant, a dogsled guide, a noise-proofer, a gun salesman, a treeplanter (where I planted over 1.5 Million trees from Vancouver Island to Eastern Alberta), and, for more than ten years now, as a Hunting guide. Somewhere in there, I also got a degree in Political Science at the University of Alberta. I’ve guided hunts in the Yukon, Alberta, and Northern BC for more than ten different species. I’ve also introduced many friends and family to hunting, and many have become talented hunters in their own right.
I’ve been meeting more and more people who say they want to start hunting, but they have no friends or family to teach them, and finding hunting mentors can be challenging. I started this company to help people who have little to no experience in hunting and foraging to learn the basic skills they need to hunt and gather on their own. And because I think that the best way to learn something like hunting is to actually hunt, I became a licensed Guide-Outfitter here in Alberta, so I can take new hunters on their first hunts. As a fully licensed and insured Guide-Outfitter and member of the Alberta Professional Outfitter Society, I can sell hunts to both Alberta residents and non-residents. I intend to offer both big game and bird game hunts, but our first year of operation will be somewhat limited in scope, owing to the Covid-19 pandemic. I’m fully vaccinated, and Folinsbee Hunting Ltd. will be operating in full compliance with Alberta’s Covid-19 restrictions.
My Wife Zahra Folinsbee, pictured above, is our Director of Social Media and Customer Outreach. She will also be learning to hunt this year. You can follow along with her progress through our social media pages, or through our Blog.
Finally, pictured above are our other two employees, Huckleberry and Ripley, our Executive Vice Presidents of Bird Pursuit and Retrieval. Free dog petting is included with every hunt sold.
